A Daily Dose of Puppies

I love puppies! I am the bumbling idiot who smiles at your dog when you take him out to poop. I am the child who runs up to you and asks if your dog is friendly. I am the slacker who wastes hours looking at pictures of other people's pets. DailyPuppy.com is the web site made for people like us. Today's pup is Samson the Beagle-Lab mix. Isn't he precious?

Samson

He has the classic beagle "I smell something" stance:

Curious like a beagle, too. I wonder if he howls like my Rosco does. AROOO! I bet he'll be more obedient than most beagles because of his lab ancestry.

And because I subscribed to the site, I get a new puppy email with a nice little story about how cute the new puppy is and where he came from. POOPIES!!!!

BOOMSHINE!!! My latest addiction.

Boomshine is a free web-based game J introduced me to a few days ago. Click here to play. I don't normally like games, so I was amazed that I could sit there for so long playing this one. The object is to click on the screen once but hit as many colored floating dots as you are required to at each particular level. For instance, the first level might require that you click on 1 out of the 5 floating dots. It may be frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of it you almost feel like you're in a trance. Aaaahhh...Dots.

Boomshine

I liken the feeling to lying down on a nice picnic blanket, looking up at the sky and popping bubbles. Or trying to spread a virus of rainbow dots. And don't forget to turn the sound up. The background music is so soothing. I bet I'd have the best dreams if I played the soundtrack to Boomshine all night long.

Farmer's Cheese: Friendship vs. Belfiore

Today I went to Whole Foods to explore the abundance of the season and I found some new cheese: Friendship Farmer's Cheese

Picture_194

I found it to be slightly tart but still tasty. It also had a nice price tag--perfect size and price for trying new things. I hate buying too much of something I'm not sure will be good. But don't we all?

Picture_190

I don't know if I like Friendship Farmer's Cheese more than Belfiore's Farmer's Cheese because I haven't compared the calorie contents yet and they don't seem to be too different in taste (though Belfiore's isn't as tart and has a milder flavor). I do like that Belfiore is local (Berkeley). So I guess Belfiore wins this round for now.

From Wikipedia:

Farmer cheese (also farmer's cheese or farmers' cheese) is a simple cheese often used for fillings in blintzes and other foods. Farmer cheese is made by pressing most of the moisture from cottage cheese; pressed drier still, it is sometimes rolled in a mixture of herbs and flavorings, or wrapped in very thin slices of flavorful smoked meats. Around the world, farmer cheese is variably made from milk from cows, sheep, or goats, each with its own final texture and nuance of flavor.

There are several forms of cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is the fresh drained curds of slightly soured, low fat pasteurized milk. When the curds are drained, the cheese is called cottage cheese; if drained longer it is called pot cheese. When the remaining moisture is pressed out so it becomes dry and crumbly, it is called farmer's cheese.

Another variety is paneer, or Indian farmer cheese, which is easily made at home. It should be consumed fresh, as it goes stale if kept too long, and becomes brittle and useless with refrigeration.

Seafood City-San Jose, CA

What an awesome assortment of Filipino fun! Besides the fresh produce (especially compared to other asian grocery stores which shall remain nameless...for now), they have lots of baked goods, candies, cosmetics, soup and marinade mixes, snacks and drinks all from the Philippines.

I spotted my favorite chocolate milk there, too. Can't find that at Ranch 99!!!

They have a bunch of other things not from the P.I. like Hawaiian Shoyu and Korean bulgogi marinade as well. What really impressed me was how clean it was inside the store.

Even the seafood section (which normally reeks in every other asian grocery store) was immaculate. They also fry fish for you so you don't have to stink up your house and hear your neighbors complain.

You don't even have to go to Seafood City just to buy groceries because they have restaurants like Chow King (filipino-style chinese fast food), Manila Sunset (I saw some standard filipino snacks like puto and soup combinations) and Red Ribbon Bakery (popular Philippine bakery chain). I can't wait to go again.
